An infill extension to a period house in Godalming, designed to bring light and space into both the original rooms and the new addition.

The extension fills the space at the rear of the house with a single, generous room, crowned by a glazed roof lantern that draws daylight deep into the plan.

Kitchen, dining and living now share one open-plan space, with steel-framed garden doors opening straight onto a landscaped terrace.

Red brickwork and simple detailing follow the character of the original house, so the new work sits comfortably alongside the old.

Garden

At the heart of the room is a bespoke kitchen with joinery by The Main Company, with a generous island, open shelving and warm timber-clad walls.

Low seating gathers beneath the lantern, looking out over the garden, and a timber-lined hallway with hooks and a bench keeps coats and boots tidy.

The result is a bright, open space at the centre of the house, connected to the garden throughout the year.
